Is it ok for someone with hepatitis c to have unprotected sex after they are “cleared” of it?

Question by laurel: Is it ok for someone with hepatitis c to have unprotected sex after they are “cleared” of it?
Like with a committed partner….and they have been cleared of hepatitis c by a doctor after treatment. I know there is technically no cure for hepatitis c. That is why I said “cleared” not “cured”.
the term “cleared” is used to refer to the period of time when the viral load of the disease is down to a certain percentage in the bloodstream. That is why you take the anti-viral meds. To get the viral load down to the point where it is “cleared” although it never really goes away.

  1. Your right there is no cure. I’m not sure what any doctor would mean by cleared. That said you should know that hep c is not typically transmitted through sex. It is transmitted primarily through blood and is mostly found in IV drug users. In fact my local clinic told me that all the cases they have seen were in this group.
